Tallinn - Tartu - Riga - Vilnius train connection
From Central and Southern Estonia to Riga or Vilnius with ease!
Starting from January 2025, you can travel by train from Tallinn, Tapa, Tamsalu, Jõgeva, Tartu, Elva, and Valga to both Latvia and Lithuania. The train to Riga and Vilnius runs once a day with a transfer at Valga station.

Passengers traveling towards Jõgeva, Tapa, and Tallinn/Narva can continue their journey by replacement bus service, but international tickets will not be sold for these buses. Additionally, tickets will not be available for the Narva – Jõhvi – Kiviõli – Rakvere – Tapa – Tartu – Valga – Riga – Vilnius route on these dates.

Stops and route
- On the Tallinn – Tartu – Valga section, the journey is operated by Elron (Stadler Flirt train), and the express train stops at the following stations: Balti Station, Kitseküla, Ülemiste, Tapa, Tamsalu, Jõgeva, Tartu, Elva, Valga.
- On the Valga – Riga section, the journey is operated by Latvian passenger train operator AS Pasažieru vilciens (Vivi), and the train stops at the following stations: Valga, Lugaži, Strenči, Valmiera, Lode, Cēsis, Līgatne, Sigulda, Inčukalns, Garkalne, Jugla, Zemitāni, Riga.
- On the Riga – Valga section, the train stops at the following stations: Riga, Zemitāni, Jugla, Inčukalns, Sigulda, Līgatne, Ieriķi, Cēsis, Lode, Valmiera, Strenči, Lugaži, Valga. The journey is served by the PESA 730 ML train, owned by LTG Link, which also serves the Riga – Vilnius line.
- On the Riga – Vilnius section, the journey is operated by the Lithuanian passenger train operator LTG Link (PESA 730 ML train), and the train stops at the following stations: Riga, Jelgava, Joniškis, Šiauliai, Radviliškis, Kėdainiai, Jonava, Kaišiadorys, Vilnius.
Tickets
The most convenient way to buy a ticket for the entire journey (Estonia - Latvia, Estonia - Lithuania direction) is in advance through the Elron ticketing system or mobile app. Tickets covering a single segment of the connection can be purchased separately from each train operator.
- Tallinn – Tartu – Valga: Tickets can be purchased from Elron's ticketing system (pre-sale up to 14 days), onboard ticket machines, or from onboard customer service staff. Numbered and reserved seats are only available with First-Class tickets.
- Valga – Riga: Tickets can be purchased from Vivi's ticketing system (pre-sale up to 10 days), Vivi’s app, or from onboard customer service staff. Light refreshments are offered onboard – check out the menu!
- Riga – Vilnius: Tickets are available from LTG Link's ticketing system (pre-sale up to 30 days), LTG Link’s app, or onboard from customer service staff. All seats are numbered, and First-Class tickets are available. Light refreshments are offered onboard – check out the menu!
Tickets are available in standard/second class.

Stadler FLIRT
The Tallinn–Valga–Riga route is operated by Elron using a Stadler FLIRT train.
The train features:
- First and Standard Class
- Free WiFi, computer desks with power outlets
- 2 wheelchair spaces, with the option to park a stroller
- Up to 10 paid bicycle spaces (must be reserved in advance at www.elron.ee)
- Restroom (including a baby changing table), accessible for passengers with reduced mobility
- Automatic climate control system

PESA 730 ML
The Valga–Riga and Riga–Vilnius routes are served by the PESA 730 ML train.
The train features:
- First and Second Class (First and Second Class tickets are sold for the Riga–Vilnius route, but no specific seats are assigned for the Valga–Riga route)
- Free WiFi (Starlink), computer desks with power outlets
- Onboard catering (see the menu)
- Spaces for wheelchairs and bicycles, with the option to park a stroller
- Restroom (including a baby changing table), accessible for passengers with reduced mobility
- Automatic climate control system
The Valga–Riga route is operated by the Latvian train operator Vivi, and the Riga–Vilnius route is operated by the Lithuanian train operator LTG Link.
