A family ticket allows a family of up to five people to sit together in a designated family area on longer train journeys. The family ticket includes tickets for 1–2 adults and 1–4 children (up to and including 19 years of age) and a reserved five-seat section on the train.

Family tickets can be purchased for direct journeys from the starting station to the final station on the following routes:

  • Southwest: Tallinn–Viljandi, Tallinn-Rapla, Tallinn-Türi
  • East: Tallinn-Narva, Tallinn-Rakvere
  • South: Tallinn–Tartu, Tallinn-Valga, Tallinn-Koidula

Family areas are available in all Elron diesel trains (not in electric trains), as they are designed to make longer journeys more comfortable for families.

Each diesel train has two family areas, and it is not possible to choose a specific area (1st or 2nd family area) when purchasing the ticket. If both family areas are reserved, the choice is determined by the order in which passengers board the train. The family area is clearly marked on the train, and customer service staff can assist with finding the seats if needed.

The price of the family ticket is 2.5 times the full ticket price for the journey. Family tickets can only be purchased through the Elron website, as the number of family areas is limited and they must be reserved in advance for the journey.

On the train

Please validate your ticket in the ticket machine on the train as you board. The ticket machines are at every door of the train. If the ticket machine is out of order you can have it validated by on-board staff.

On-board staff have the right to check every passenger`s ticket even if the ticket has already been validated in the ticket machine.

You must carry an ID confirming your eligibility for these discounts:

  • the discount for people aged up to and including 19;
  • the discount for people with partial or no work ability;

Free Wi-Fi is available on all our trains. First class has a separate, faster Wi-Fi.

We are not offering any food or drink on-board but you’re welcome to bring snacks and beverages (except alcohol) with you.

All carriages are fitted with air conditioning controlled automatically through an internal device, which is set to keep the temperature between 18-25 degrees Celsius depending on the outside temperature. At certain intervals the system blows cool air into the carriage through its AC vents. The train driver can regulate the temperature by up to two degrees Celsius. Please contact our on-board staff if the temperature feels uncomfortable.

The passenger is allowed to carry on the train luggage the sum of the three dimensions (length, width, height) of which does not exceed 200 cm and the weight of which does not exceed 40 kg (excluding bicycles and skis).

If possible, luggage should be placed on the luggage rack.
There are no extra luggage room on the 1st class.

Travelling with a pet is only allowed in the train’s C area (car doors have a bike and wheelchair stickers, above the door is a pet sticker). You do not have to buy an additional ticket for your pet.
Pets are not allowed in first class.

There are places for strollers in the C area of the train, where there are also special safety belts for attaching strollers, and attendants can find a seat for themselves. There is also a changing table in the toilet in area C. Choosing the right door is especially important for those who exit at a stop with a short platform, as there is only exit through the C-area door of the train and, in the case of a coupled train, through the C-area of the first train in the direction of travel.

During railway repairs, the use of a replacement bus with a baby carriage is possible, provided that the baby carriage is placed in the luggage compartment (must be collapsible).
It is also possible to enter electric trains with a baby carriage from other doors if there is a baby carriage sticker above the train door - these trains have extended door areas where you can comfortably travel with a baby carriage.
