A family ticket allows a family of up to five people to sit together in a designated family area on longer train journeys. The family ticket includes tickets for 1–2 adults and 1–4 children (up to and including 19 years of age) and a reserved five-seat section on the train.

Family tickets can be purchased for direct journeys from the starting station to the final station on the following routes:

  • Southwest: Tallinn–Viljandi, Tallinn-Rapla, Tallinn-Türi
  • East: Tallinn-Narva, Tallinn-Rakvere
  • South: Tallinn–Tartu, Tallinn-Valga, Tallinn-Koidula

Family areas are available in all Elron diesel trains (not in electric trains), as they are designed to make longer journeys more comfortable for families.

Each diesel train has two family areas, and it is not possible to choose a specific area (1st or 2nd family area) when purchasing the ticket. If both family areas are reserved, the choice is determined by the order in which passengers board the train. The family area is clearly marked on the train, and customer service staff can assist with finding the seats if needed.

The price of the family ticket is 2.5 times the full ticket price for the journey. Family tickets can only be purchased through the Elron website, as the number of family areas is limited and they must be reserved in advance for the journey.

If you have a registered residence and a personalised Public Transportation Smartcard (Ühiskaart) you can buy discounted train tickets for travel in the zoned area around Tallinn at www.pilet.ee. Tickets are available for 30 days and are loaded to the Smartcard.

Discounted tickets for travel beyond the zoned area are available only on trains, either from the  ticket machine and payable with your Elron Farecard or from on-board staff, payable with your Elron Farecard, a bank card or in cash.

You must present your Public Transportation Smartcard on the train.
