How can I load money on my Elron Farecard?

You can load money to your Farecard online, or on the train with the help of on-board staff. The smallest amount that you can load to the Farecard is €1 online and €15 on the train, and in the latter case you can increase it in steps of 5€ (€15, €20, €25 and so on).

You can use the money on your Farecard to buy tickets online or on the train with a 10% discount. You need an Elron account to buy tickets online with the Farecard credit.

In order to load money to your Farecard online

  • Click on “Load money” under the journey planner;
  • Select 5 €, 10 €, 20 € or your own amount and click on “Confirm amount”;
  • Enter your Elron Farecard number and click on “Add to cart”;
  • Select your bank, review the terms and conditions, make your payment and click on “Return to Merchant”.
  • If you wish you can print the top-up confirmation or send it to an e-mail address.
How can I buy a single ticket online?

– Select the from / to stations and date in the journey planner and click on „Go“;

– Select the departure;

– Select the ticket category (standard, discounted standard or First Class) and the number of tickets;

– If travelling in First Class click on “Select seat”;

– Click on „Buy“;

– A new page will open where you choose how you would like to receive the ticket. You can have it sent either to your Elron farecard (hüperlink) or to an email address.  Confirm your selection by clicking on “Add to cart”;

– Select your payment method (bank, credit card or Elron farecard), review the terms and conditions of use and continue to payment. You need an Elron account  if you wish to pay with your farecard credit. Click on “Return to vendor” when your transaction has been approved;

The ticket will be delivered as requested - to your e-mail address or your farecard. If you wish you can get a confirmation e-mail of the ticket that was loaded to your farecard.

Do I have to find the customer service representative as soon as I step on the train?

If you have a ticket, please validate it via a ticket machine when you get on the train. Then find a seat to your liking.
If you do not have a ticket, please let the customer service representative know that you would like to buy a ticket as soon as they reach you. Every passenger is required to buy a ticket. If you have bought a ticket onto your Farecard, tell that to the customer service representative when handing them the Farecard so that they would not sell you another ticket. If you want to buy or produce a discount ticket, please be sure to also show the customer service representative your document certifying your entitlement to the travel fare concession; if the document does not have your photo, please also show your identity document.

How to buy a season ticket online?

You need an Elron farecard (hüperlink) where the ticket will be loaded.

– Click on „Season Ticket“ (hüperlink) under the journey planner;
– Select the ticket duration (1 day, 30 days, 90 days or your own custom range)

– Select
the zone(s) or the stations
– Select the start date and the ticket type (season ticket or discounted season ticket)
– Check the ticket information and enter the number of the Elron farecard where you wish the ticket to be loaded;

– Select your payment method (bank, credit card or Elron farecard), review the terms and conditions of use and continue to payment. You need an Elron account (hüperlink) if you wish to pay with your farecard credit. Click on “Return to vendor” when your transaction has been approved;

– The ticket that you bought will be loaded to your farecard. You can see your active tickets and transaction history when you log in with your Elron farecard

When is it necessary to present an identity document on the train?

An identity document must be submitted:

  • when using a local government discount to prove that the personalized Ühiskaart is used by its owner;
  • to prove the age of a person up to 19 years of age;
  • a person with partial or no work ability to prove that the disabled person card is used by the person to whom it is issued;
  • to prove the age of a person aged 65 or older.
Can the farecard be used by more than one person?

Yes, it can. The farecard is not personalised and it can have a number of tickets on it.  It is important, however, that the farecard to which a ticket has been loaded is carried by the passenger who is travelling with the ticket because the ticket is only valid together with the farecard.

How can I buy a season ticket online?

You need an Elron farecard where the ticket will be loaded.

  • Click on „Season Ticket“ under the journey planner;

  • Select the zone(s) or the stations
  • Select the start date and the ticket type (season ticket or discounted season ticket)

  • Enter your email address if you wish to sign up for season ticket reminders; 
  • The ticket that you bought will be loaded to your farecard. You can see your active tickets and transaction history when you log in with your Elron farecard here. 

How to buy tickets from a ticket machine on the train with the Elron Farecard?

– Tap the farecard on the reader.
– Choose the end station, or the zone of your end station when travelling in the zoned area near Tallinn. Choose a zone OR choose a stop
– Choose your ticket.  If you want to use the discount for registered residents with the Public Transportation Smartcard (Ühiskaart), press „Select“ next to “Ühiskaart discounted ticket” and tap your Smartcard. If you want to buy a regular ticket without the Public Transportation Smartcard, choose „Single ticket“ or „Discounted single ticket“.
– The ticket machine will display the price.
– Tap the farecard on the reader to confirm the transaction.
